Respect - OLD POST
It is a topic that has been floating around in our gym for the last couple of months and always a interesting topic to get peoples points of view.
As I put in my last post about this topic, I have always run my sessions in a less formal manner than some Traditional martial arts, it is not that I think it is a bad idea just not really fitted with my coaching style, but I do question myself with what is lost by not adhering to these traditions.
Even though we do not bow to each other and standing lines of rank,
I still expect people to be respectful to coaches and students but for some
reason this is lost with people wanting to learn MMA (cage fighting).
Our JKD coach Suleyman wrote a brilliant post which highlighted a
number of great points when it comes to joining and training our classes:-
MMA is a solo sport but some people have the attitude that they just need to look out for themselves, but you get no were without people to
train with and no one wants to train with an arrogant and sometimes dangerous training
partner.
Show respect to the gym, coaches training partners and people will
want to help you … remember “it is nice to be nice”.
Take Care
